For over 40 years Sonlight Christian Camp has been taking young people on expeditionary wilderness trips in southern Colorado so that they can have a chance to know God and who He created them to be, Faithful leadership has been committed to the camp’s vision in order to provide excellent wilderness experiences.

BRIEF HISTORY OF HOW SONLIGHT CHRISTIAN CAMP GOT STARTED AND WHY IT EXISTS
Sonlight Camp was founded in 1979 by a husband and wife who wanted to get youth out into the wilderness to help them discover who God wanted them to be. Though we have grown to include both backpacking and resident camps, Sonlight still seeks to help kids unplug, find community, study the scriptures, and discover Jesus and who God wants them to be. Sonlight exists in order to make a place for kids to explore the big questions about life and get exposed to how Christ fulfills those questions.

Trips are typically 4-5 days.

- Daily devotion or quiet times
- Solo experience (either a few hours or day-long solos)

WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL WILDERNESS TRIP?
Sonlight’s trips are successful when 1) campers have faith conversations and ask questions about Jesus that they didn’t have time or opportunity for in their normal routines; 2) campers surmount a challenge that they weren’t initially sure they’d be able to accomplish; and 3) they support each other in mundane tasks and significant challenges, forming a new level of community over their trek.
HOW SONLIGHT CHRISTIAN CAMP POINTS PEOPLE TO CHRIST AND HELPS THEM GROW IN THEIR FAITH
Guides are asked to be ready for conversations about Jesus Christ, to reflect Christ’s love in all things, and to lead devotional times in which campers can hear the good news.
