Solid Rock Climbers for Christ is a community of climbers, many of whom are followers of Christ that are interacting with principles of God found in the Bible. What does climbing have to do with one’s religious views? Not much or everything! We love to climb and as we do, we want to honor the God we serve and be a witness of Him.

Solid Rock Climbers for Christ’s Vision and Purpose

  • Vision: Bringing the Good News to climbers
  • Purpose: SRCFC exists to encourage, equip, and empower climbers to reach climbers for Christ through personal witness and group outreach.

Brief History of How SRCFC Got Started and Why it Exists

Solid Rock began in the late 1980’s in Yosemite Valley under the leadership of Dan Freeman. The first conference was held in August 1989 for weekend of ministry and encouragement. In November of that same year, Dan was taken home to be with the Lord in a freak bicycle accident. Nevertheless, his vision of sharing the life-saving Gospel of Christ with the climbing community continues. The organization thrived in the early nineties as the mailing list grew to over a thousand.

However in the late nineties, the ministry stagnated. In 1999, feeling the will of God to keep the vision of reaching climbers for Christ going, Calvin Landrus stepped in as the volunteer, part-time national director. In 2003, he went full time as a faith-supported missionary to the climbing community.
