CROWSNEST LAKE BIBLE CAMP’S VISION

Creating Christ-centered servant leaders for the outdoors.

BRIEF HISTORY OF HOW CROWSNEST LAKE BIBLE CAMP GOT STARTED AND WHY IT EXISTS

We at Crowsnest Lake Bible Camp have been outtripping in the Canadian Rockies since the 1960’s. We depend on qualified and competent leaders to make this happen; our COLTS participants. Crowsnest Outdoor Leadership Training School is an accelerated leadership development program that aims to create Christ-centred leaders in the outdoor industry. This is accomplished through purposed instruction and in-depth training, then culminated with 2 months of experiential practicums leading outtrips during our summer camps.

WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL WILDERNESS ADVENTURE TRIP?

Success for us is not if a group peaks a mountain or completes the longest hike, it’s about if our objectives of showing campers Christ is met or not. If God is not included in the outdoor program, we would consider that unsuccessful. We also like to see campers pushed physically and to experience things that they wouldn’t normally experience.

DURATION OF TRIPS OFFERED

They offer trips ranging from 1-10 days.

EXPEDITIONARY LEARNING ELEMENTS TYPICALLY INCLUDED IN THEIR TRIPS

  • Daily devotion or quiet times
  • Solo experience (either a few hours or day-long solos)
  • Teachable moments or trail talks along the journey
  • Having participants share their testimony or life-story
  • Peak Climbs
  • Rappelling/Abseiling
  • Rock climbing
  • Canoeing
  • Backpacking
  • Practicing and Teaching Leave No Trace Ethics

HOW CLBC INTRODUCES PEOPLE TO CHRIST AND HELPS PEOPLE GROW IN THEIR FAITH

We use the wilderness around us as a tool to point towards a backdrop that leaves us without excuse to know there is a God, then work towards why it is the God of the bible.

TESTIMONIAL

“One cannot truly communicate the COLTS program by words alone, it must be experienced. I could tell stories of incredible highs and lows, of which I certainly had many of, but the overall impact COLTS will (likely) have on you is more than that. I can confidently say that by the end of the entire experience I was, for all intents and purposes, a different person. I now see myself as a leader as God made me, not by how I thought a leader to be. I had first-hand experience of what it looks and feels like to live actively in faith, something which will anchor me for years to come. Hilariously enough, I have never wanted to quit something so badly, while simultaneously never wanting it to end. I love this program and this camp. If anyone reading this wants to ask me a question, I would love to have a discussion. Ask Daniel for my contact info.”
