2 Training Opportunities to Take Advantage of this Summer

by | Leadership Development, Training, Wilderness Education, Youth Ministry

After many months of putting things on hold, summer holds some much-anticipated chances to get back to our passions.  I want to share 2 professional development opportunities available for outdoor and youth leaders that I believe will be valuable training to broaden your leadership. Please join me at Yellowstone Theological Institute for one or both of the following courses that I am teaching. You can audit them or take them for credit!

Outdoor Ministry: Planning & Implementation

ADV 534 details the planning and implementation process for outdoor adventure ministries. It covers the application process for participants, insurance needs, specific planning items for camping, first-aid issues, and a variety of outdoor events. It covers appropriate ‘theological/spiritual’ curriculum planning for specific types of outdoor events, with specific objectives in mind, and how to evaluate the results and effectiveness of these ministries. The course covers what to expect in the wilderness, how to prepare for the ‘unexpected’, and, the actual implementation of an outdoor ministry event. (Students must be physically able to endure varying kinds of weather, terrain, and exposure. Students unable to engage in extended outdoor activities will be provided with alternate opportunities to fulfill the course requirements.)

Introduction to NextGen Ministries

MIN 534 introduces the student to ministries for the “Next Generation” – young men and women from ages of 18-27, including a study of their cognitive processes, familial stresses, physical evolution, cultural orientation, political dispositions, and theological awareness.

If you lead any kind of outdoor trips that serve young people 18-27, this course will be full of insightful information about your audience.

Leadership Training Must Adapt, Re-Educate, and Re-Train

Effective leaders must have a cultural literacy, comprehensive knowledge, character and ability to connect people to God. In this day and age as things are unpredictable and always chaging, it is imperative that leaders stay trained in leadership and educated on modern culture.
