CAMP DUNCAN’S VISION
Sharing Hope… Changing Lives.
BRIEF HISTORY OF HOW CAMP DUNCAN GOT STARTED AND WHY IT EXISTS
Camp Duncan opened in 2011 as a female offshoot of Cameron Boys Camp, a wilderness therapeutic camp that has been running since 1980. Both camps operate under the umbrella of Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, and exist to serve hurting children and families by showing them God’s love while helping them work through life problems. We use a hands-on, experiential learning approach as we work together as a group, building our own shelters and taking adventure trips, all for the purpose of helping kids accomplish their goals, learn to build better relationships with others, and ultimately offer them a chance to build a relationship with God.
WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL ADVENTURE TRIP AT CAMP DUNCAN
The framework for a successful wilderness/adventure trip is one that the group takes ownership in planning, sets specific goals that participants want to accomplish, and meets safety standards and requirements. The group will feel successful if they have fun, build spirit and learn to work together to overcome obstacles along the way.
