Wilderness Counseling: What Teenagers Want in a Relationship

by | Adventure Therapy, Experiential Teaching & Facilitation, Wilderness Counseling

One of the things I love most about wilderness ministry is the quantity of time you have to talk with teenagers. Teenagers are so distracted these days and have so much information to process. Yet many of them lack having a loving adult (who has their best interest in mind) help them think through God’s design for relationships. Wilderness time gives adolescents opportunities to think, ask questions, and learn about healthy relationships from loving adults.

OUTDOOR MINISTRY PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPACT TEENAGERS IN THE AREA OF WHAT MAKES A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP

We want to help guide kids so that they can see the benefits of aligning their lives with God’s design for sex and relationships. As experiential educators we also know that the best way to win the right to be heard by someone is to start the conversation where they are. We need to take time to understand what teenagers are thinking about relationships first. Then we will be more effective in shepherding them toward seeing the benefits of God’s design for relationships.

A survey was conducted of hundreds of teenagers around the question, “What is one thing you want in a relationship. ” Click the link below to see the results and implications for outdoor ministry:
