ROCK RIDGE’S VISION
Rock Ridge exists to create a wilderness camping experience for youth and adults with the purpose of sharing the Gospel of Christ, encouraging growth in Christ and providing training for the Christian leaders and workers of tomorrow.
BRIEF HISTORY OF HOW ROCK RIDGE GOT STARTED AND WHY IT EXISTS
What is now Rock Ridge started as a boys camp in 1925. They used the campers to actually build parts of the camp, including a chapel overlooking the lake and an all rock sauna. Rock walls are seen all around the camp as part of the hard work of campers long ago. In 1997, the property was purchased and donated to Camp Shamineau to be used as another ministry of Shamineau Ministries. Naturally, due to its location near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the camp took shape into a ministry that thrived on adventure and wilderness travel. To this day, Rock Ridge uses wilderness trips and adventures as tools to share Jesus Christ.
WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL WILDERNESS ADVENTURE TRIP?
Each leader that comes on a trip with us sets a goal to reach. It might be for kids to grow in their faith. It might be for kids to begin a faith in Christ. It depends on where those kids are at. Either way, when a leader can build deeper relationships with those kids, and those kids can build confidence and be pointed at Christ, then we have succeeded in our job.
