Expedition Backcountry Adventures is an amazing example of the impact a church based outdoor ministry can have. They now are a full service outdoor adventure provider, reaching a diverse audience.
EXPEDITION BACKCOUNRTY ADVENTURES’ VISION
Transforming lives through backcountry adventure.
BRIEF HISTORY OF HOW EXPEDITION BACKCOUNTRY ADVENTURES GOT STARTED AND WHY IT EXISTS
Expedition’s roots are in the local church. What began as a ministry to families and youth at Waterstone Community Church has evolved into a full service outdoor adventure provider in the Denver Metro area. In 2012 Matt and Shannon, the owners of Expedition, were led to transition out of vocational ministry and into the marketplace where they now serve companies, non-profits, churches, and of course youth and family. Expedition specializes in high impact leadership retreats for small executive teams, wilderness programming for youth groups, and struggling teenagers through their wilderness intercept program Compass. In the fall Expedition hosts marriage retreats, men’s and women’s retreats, and pastor’s retreats with clients coming from all over the country. At the core of what we do is a fundamental conviction that being made in the image of God has massive implications for life in the here and now. Whether a senior executive on a leadership retreat with his team, or a 12 year Junior High girl, we want all of our clients to step into the fullness of what they were created to be. By creating space for honest conversations, rest, and reflection the end goal is re-engagement with a renewed vision in vocation, community, and our homes.
WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL WILDERNESS ADVENTURE TRIP?
In our wilderness programming we are praying and waiting for the breakthrough honest conversation with a participant. Where they finally are able to articulate and share what is happening in the deeper water of their soul. Our guides are trained to help them ‘interpret the experience’ and leave with action steps or renewed vision.
