Imagine working on the International Space Station, having to live in such close proximity with a team of other people for weeks at a time. That requires a unique team. The wilderness helps groups quickly work through interpersonal and problem-solving issues to efficiently establish cohesiveness.
I think I know why adventure racing is gaining such popularity. I love the adventure aspect of the races but even more than that, I love what these races teach me about relationships.

Outdoor leadership requires healthy teams. When you are spending a week with another guide leading a group in the wilderness, if you don’t enjoy working together as a team, your whole group will suffer. Teamwork among guides, staff, and volunteers is a key to a successful outdoor ministry programs.
