How Surfing Could Heal Clashing Civilizations?

surfing could heal clashing civilizationsSurfing is currently one of my favorite outdoor sports. It is also a sport that I am a very long way from mastering. One of the things I love about surfing is the culture. Surfers don’t seem to care about much, which is quite refreshing. I say this tongue-in-cheek, but there is a surf movie (trailer below) that makes me wonder if surfer-types could be the culture that brings healing to clashing civilizations.

A Culture of Surf or a Culture of Separation?

If you love surfing, or even if you just love the idea of surfing, there is a movie coming out that may interest you. It’s a story about how surfing emerges as an escape from the tension and controversy that preoccupies the Middle East. Here is a flick about two surfing buddies from different faith backgrounds, who build their friendships based upon a culture of surf, rather than a culture of separation.
