CAMP CEDARBROOK’S MISSION

Reach and disciple girls for Christ

BRIEF HISTORY OF HOW CAMP CEDARBROOK IN THE ADIRONDACKS GOT STARTED AND WHY IT EXISTS

We are proud to say we have had 53 years of camping in the Adirondacks. That’s 53 summers of impacting the lives of girls and inspiring them to live God-centered lives. During the 1950s, Pioneer girls club programs in churches grew quickly throughout the northeast United States. Pocono Camp Cherith soon outgrew its capacity to serve girls clubs from the metro–New York area. June Stump (“Stumpy”), the regional representative to clubs in this area, began a long search for property to meet the growing need. The new camp in Upstate NY opened in 1965. In 2009 the name Camp Cedarbook in the Adirondacks was adopted. In the ensuing years, more than 20,000 girls have gone camping in the Adirondacks at Cedarbrook. They are a testimony to the value of a camping experience which emphasizes the importance of building self-esteem and character through the small-group, family-type structure and the beauty and challenge of living in the out-of-doors.

Camp Cedarbrook provides a safe, supportive place for girls to seek new opportunities and challenges. Campers experience achievement and build their self-confidence and courage to try new things. Within a structured setting, campers pursue personal interests in their chosen activity areas, such as archery, kayaking, and crafts, and collaborate with their bunk group in shared activities. Each camper learns outdoor living skills that will enable her to be comfortable and independent in the great outdoors and become more aware of God’s beautiful creation. Cedarbrook exists to transform the lives of young women for Jesus through a wilderness camp experience that engages them in Christian community, challenges them to build new skills, and invites them to enjoy the great outdoors.

TESTIMONIAL

My girls have been going to Cedarbrook for several years now. It’s an amazing opportunity to get away from the “busyness” and spend some time with God in a wonderfully nurturing community. Staff are awesome role models and really want to invest in the next generation of young women. Setting is beautiful. Girls can choose different activities that help them to stretch out of their comfort zones. Wonderful experience!
