In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act, Dave Warnack, District Ranger, Smokey Bear Ranger District, Lincoln National Forest tells what Wilderness means to him and the value of it’s preservation for future generations.

WHAT IS WILDERNESS?

What is wilderness? Surely it is more than legislation or boundary lines on a map.  Legislation itself, however, contains some clues and guidance about the purposes and characteristics of wilderness.  This video explains how the Wilderness Act in the United States has profoundly preserved God’s creation for everyone to enjoy. It allows for spiritual and primitive experiences in a rapidly developing world full of social pressures. There is so much more to add to this conversation.
