Well-researched trends in youth ministry are pointing to the need for more emphasis on small group outdoor adventure programs. I’ve been working to develop wilderness ministry programs around the world for a while now and I can confidently say that small group adventure-based ministries are extremely effective and relevant to the current global youth culture. Yet churches, seminaries, and non-profits are still way behind in prioritizing extended outdoor retreats in their student ministry programs. I believe this will be changing in the next decade because of the unique needs of this generation of youth.
